We recently caught up with Chris LaBonty, one of the co-founders of HeadFunder, an exciting new social crowdfunding platform, “determined to give back and help our future generations!” – Browse by category, including Arts, Fashion, Music and Small Business – or by cause, like Human Rights, Environment, or Animals. Check them out and get funding!
StartupCatchup: Thanks for joining us Chris, please introduce us to your venture!
Chris: Nolan Thompson and I (Chris LaBonty) are the co-founders of HeadFunder, Inc. We are young crowdpreneurs from Orange County, California. We operate HeadFunder which is a crowdfunding platform. We also operate HeadTalker which is a crowdspeaking platform. Our company is focused on bringing the crowd together to help make amazing things happen in the world.
StartupCatchup: Sounds great! How did you come up with the idea?
Chris: We have always been interested in the crowd related industries, especially crowdfunding. One day I was speaking to Nolan on the phone and we decided we wanted to make a crowdfunding platform. Hours went by and we were already thinking of names, ideas, etc. We pursued what is now the best journey of our lives.
StartupCatchup: What made you actually take action and go for it?
Chris: Back when we first started talking about the idea, we were working at jobs. Our goal in life is to help people and build our own successful company. Before we made the leap to start our own platform, we were nervous. We didn’t know what to expect and were left wondering how other companies had done it before us. Then it hit us: they just went for it! The only reason why a company is successful is because they took that first idea and turned it into something real. So that night we bought the domain and here we are today!
StartupCatchup: How many people are currently working on the project and who are they?
Chris: At the current time we have three ambitious team members involved with HeadFunder, Inc. full time. Justin is our front end developer who helps make sure the site looks and functions properly. Nolan and Chris are the co founders of HeadFunder, Inc. We both quit our jobs and have been working on the company since the beginning, we haven’t looked back since.
StartupCatchup: How are you funding this exciting project?
Chris: HeadFunder, Inc. has been self-funded. We are not taking out loans anytime soon, but we are open to talking with investors. Our team is much more passionate about our company because we have funded this entire venture on our own.
StartupCatchup: What are your plans for the business and what do you hope to accomplish?
Chris: Our plan is to keep expanding in the crowd related industries and gain more of a global audience. We hope to expand to every country in the world and become one of the most popular web companies to date. Our vision is large and we are not in it for the short run. We have a few more platforms on their way.
StartupCatchup: What has been the most rewarding/positive experience so far on the journey?
Chris: The most rewarding part of what we do is that we get to help people! Every morning we wake up to new crowdfunding campaigns and crowdspeaking campaigns that we are now personally involved with. There is honestly no better feeling than knowing that you are making a positive impact in another person’s life. Thanks to the internet and our platforms, we are able to help people around the world!
StartupCatchup: Having been through it yourself, what would you advise others who have an idea but simply don’t know where to begin?
Chris: Our advice to people who have an idea is to go for it. The internet is such a helpful tool and you can get advice online that would cost you money to speak with a specialist. The internet can help you find many of the answers you may be looking for. We all have the same 24 hours on Earth. If you invest the time you spend working at your job on something that you are truly passionate about, the results are limitless.
StartupCatchup: Great points! Before you head off, can you give us a quote that motivates and inspires you to keep going?
Chris: “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.” – Unknown
